Poetry on the Edge: Workshops

Poetry on the Edge brings professional writers Kevin Higgins, Terry McDonagh and Alice Kinsella to Ballina for readings and poetry workshops in a series of school and community engagements. The aim of the project is to make creative writing and literarture accessible for a variety of audiences.

Poets Kevin Higgins, Terry McDonagh and Alice Kinsella will each faciliate a two part poetry workshop over two evenings:

Weds 13th October 7pm – Part 1

Thurs 14th October 7pm – Part 2

Tickets: €10 for both workshops.

Kevin Higgins’ best-selling first collection, The Boy with No Face, published by Salmon Poetry, was short-listed for the 2006 Strong Award for Best First Collection by an Irish poet. The Stinging Fly magazine has described Kevin as “likely the most widely read living poet in Ireland” Kevin’s sixth full poetry collection, Ecstatic, will be published by Salmon in March 2022.

Terry McDonagh, poet, translator and dramatist has published numerous poetry collections, bilingual letters (German English), drama, prose and writing for children.  A two-part radio documentary, ‘Two Notes for Home’, on Terry McDonagh, the modern bard of Cill Aodáin, compiled by Werner Lewon, has just been released. He’s currently completing a collection, ‘Two Notes for Home’. 

Alice Kinsella’s poetry publications include The Irish Times, Poetry Ireland Review and, The North. Her poems have been translated into Polish, Arabic, and Greek. Her pamphlet Sexy Fruit (Broken Sleep Books) was a Poetry Book Society Spring 2019 Selection. She is the editor of Empty House: poetry and prose on the climate crisis (Doire Press, 2021). Her debut full-length poetry collection, supported by Words Ireland and The Arts Council of Ireland, is forthcoming.
